Our DIY Kitchen/Entryway Display Transformation

I say keep the home remodeling coming! We are having a blast with it!
There was this built in aquarium in our kitchen/entryway. It was really gross and used to house a giant snake for years. It just wasn't working for us. Over the weekend, we just pulled our act together and decided we were going to transform the yucky space into a display shelf. And we love the result!

Hubs took the aquarium out and built the frame/shelves for me while I worked on the décor.
Not wanting to spend a lot of money and knowing that I had a ton of stuff in our house, I decided to challenge myself and use only what I had on hand already. And I'm glad I did!
I ended up not spending any money on my portion (now I can put that money towards other stuff, ahem, other craft projects) and loved how I was able to free up kitchen cabinet space by using my kitchen items as décor. I also liked how I was able to use up some of those random craft supplies that I normally would have left cluttering other places.

My display came out so different than what I planned for. I thought there would be so much color and a lot more items on the shelves. But we are actually loving the simplicity and white since its an open shelf and we already have a lot going on in our small house.
I ended up just opening my kitchen cabinets and pulled out some of my nice white sets that I don't use on a regular basis. I pulled out a few more random white items, rearranged things around quite a few times, and pretty soon hubs was telling me how much he was loving it! If I ever want to use the white dish sets for a special occasion, no biggie, I'll just use them and put them back after.

The bunting banner was super easy. It was the first thing I started, planned to be use for a different room originally, and was what sparked my ideas for the display. I just pulled out some random scrap fabric, folded it hot dog style, cut triangles, and hot glued the white ribbon inside the fold of the triangles. No sewing required. Easy Easy.
The sign was a gift from my sister when Jimmy and I first got married. I saved it until I found the perfect spot. The wreaths were originally just one foam wreath from the dollar store I had on hand. I cut it in half, wrapped them in burlap, and attached handmade flowers on. The frame was just a black plastic frame I pulled from storage. I sanded it so my cheap paint would hold on, spray painted it blue, then lightly brushed some watered down off-white paint on after it dried. I love how it turned out!

I LOVE how I didn't have to go to the store once for this project! Jimmy and I can't get enough of our new display, it changes the room up like crazy. Not to mention the smell of fresh wood is awesome. :)

Next up is the bathroom!

just popping in

A post from Kailie?! Whahhh!????

I know this blog has been neglected lately, and I'll just blame it on everything else but me. ;) We've been busy busy busy over here getting ready to head off on a little MUCH NEEDED Disney vacation, prepping our house for remodeling which will officially start as soon as we get back, and we both extended our work hours. Hubs rocks 60 hours a week like its no big deal. He amazes me. I, on the other hand:

I hope to get back into the swing of things around here soon. I seem to be more updated on Instagram because its so quick so if you are on there, catch up with us  there @kailiebreit

the fourth, the outdoors, some food, and a spook.

A little recap of what we've been up to lately. I know, I'm super behind on blogging!

We enjoyed the fourth of July..

Between the parade with my family, a movie, some BBQ food with hub's family, then a giant water fight and fireworks, we had a great time! Well, don't I say that every year?

(Thanks hubs for the top two photos)

I baked and decorated these little patriotic coconut cupcakes for our BBQ. Unfortunately most of the flags didn't make it to the cupcakes in time.

Jimmy got a (very nice) used bike for a great deal the other week. Bike rides every evening, alllllll evening....

And we've been having fun in the kitchen of course! Do you think I would update y'all with a post that had no food in it somewhere? Hubby actually made and canned the jams below. Lots of berries from the garden were involved, yum!

What did I do while he worked away? I sat on my rear and ate a few cookies. I so kindly offered up my jam taste testing services every now and again too. So much work involved in the process. ;)

Sorry for the awful quality photos below but....

The other night I came home from work, flipped on the bedroom light, and got spooked out of my pants because a man was lying in my bed.

After a long second of scared jumping, I laughed and laughed at hubby's little surprise. Yes, those are his clothes, yes hubs drew the face himself, and yes that is a head made out of a well used whoopie cushion laying around the house.

Because every couple needs a whoopie cushion to keep their marriage strong, ya know?

a long overdue post. aka what's been happening around here?!

My healing is going so well! The first 1.5 weeks was hard. Yuck. I'm so glad I'm out of that phase. But as soon as week #2 hit, I was feeling so good! My mom, sister, and husband took such great care of me, that helped speed the healing up a ton. I soon felt like I was well enough and needed to get back into the routine of life. So off we went, moving back into our home. Jimmy spent a lot of time deep cleaning the house and yard so I would be a happy camper to come home to. We've been blessed with some tasty meals from ward members and that was a huge help while I was trying to get caught up on my to-do list...slowly.

I got bored this week and went back to one of my jobs. I knew I would be okay for a couple of hours especially since I would just be sitting down doing paperwork. I also had a doctor's appointment. My doctor reminded me again of how much trauma my body had just gone through, and that he was very pleased with how well I was handling it. Plus he did his evaluation thing and GUESS WHAT. Doc was so amazed at how well I was doing that I got cleared a month early! He said it takes most patients 6 (or even 8) weeks to recover the amount I had recovered in 2 weeks! The priesthood is real! And prayers really do work! I feel like I can't thank everyone who included us in their prayers enough. But I'll say it again. THANK YOU for your prayers and well wishes. I am at the point now where being active and returning back to my regular lifestyle will actually help my body finish up healing and get back on track. Whoo hoo!  Hubby's response was, "Let's go rock climbing!" (I'm not ready to move quite that fast, babe.)

We've been spending a lot of time outside in the evenings. Hubs has been doing his nature photography lately and I'll go along for the fresh air. Until I get too scared of the skunks. Then I'm jumping and heading back to the car as fast as I can while hubs gets a teensy bit frustrated with me that I might be scaring the wildlife. But I do enjoy snapping a few phone pics while I'm out with him.

We also celebrated our two year anniversary together. We had previous plans to play around in Moab but since I needed something simple and "healing friendly", Jimmy surprised me with a little picnic in the park. It was so sweet and cute of him.

I LOVE being married to this man. He is so sweet to me and keeps me laughing everyday. I'm so happy I get him all to myself for the rest of eternity!

these are my thoughts. in no order that will make sense

Its been almost a week since I had my life threatening experience. A week of laying in bed, looking out the window and replaying what happened that scary day. Its what I think about most. I cannot help it. The memories of dripping in my own sweat and crying out in pain. Oh, the pain. Something I will never forget.
Like feeling like the life is draining from you.
Watching Jimmy's face as he watches the monitor flash that my blood pressure is dropping. Feeling his never ending grip on my hand as if to tell me that he will hold on if I won't. Sensing his stress and worry.
Being told that I am in fact, not infertile. But that this baby is killing me.
Immediately being prepped for emergency surgery. My first surgery at that.
Being so scared. But feeling the peace and comfort of my father and husband blessing me.
Having another episode of pain while getting wheeled into the operating room.
Waking up crying, shaking, and scratching my face. Having nurses crowded around me telling me that I was so brave and apologizing to me.
Being wheeled passed my parents and husband to hear my mom tell me how I was a momma and that it was a big baby.
Having nurses come in all night long because I had lost so much blood.
Mumbling to every nurse who checked on me that I was not infertile.
Remembering what its like listening to my doctor tell me how close to the line I had gotten. He kept saying how much my body had gone through. And how there was so much internal bleeding. My lungs were inflamed, making it hard for me to breathe.
He held up his fist, explaining that the fetus was as big as my uterus, which is equivalent to my fist. He then pointed to the small end of a pen, and told me that was the size of my fallopian tube. And that is where the fetus had developed.
He could not believe how well my body hung on. The whole thing could have gone wrong in so many places, but he told me he is amazed at how well I pulled through.
I cannot fathom how a fetus survived that long in there. And for those few months I had no clue. No sickness, still running around doing my day to day activities. Its just crazy.

I keep trying to figure out the reason for all of this. A lot of me feels like it is a lesson of hope to us. That even though you might feel like you are so lost in your own trials, Heavenly Father already has his plans set in motion. We just have to remember to keep trusting in him and not give up.

Right now I am doing okay. This week has been very rough on me. But I woke up this morning feeling better than I have all week. I am still in pain and my tummy is covered in bruises. It hurts to breathe and I still need help with simple day to day things. But I am learning to not rush myself and to put my situation in God's hands.

Thank you so much to all of your sweet support and kind words! I cannot believe how much help we have gotten. Thank you for all of the prayers and encouraging messages. I read every one of them every day and it keeps me going. So thank you thank you thank you!

our not-so-fun hospital adventure. but there is good news too!

So....I know a lot of you already have the general idea about how our weekend went. I am so so so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends who have expressed concern and support for me. And since I've been getting a ton of calls, texts, messages on facebook, etc. about what happened and where I am at today, I figured it would be easier to write up a little post.

If you read my last post regarding my health, you would know that I have been dealing with a few issues. I had been seeing a doctor to work on bringing my hormone levels up. Back in March I had started taking all of the hormones. I went almost 70 days without a period. Knowing it was a very slim chance, I got a blood pregnancy test from our general family doctor. The test results came back negative. I was not surprised. Then in May, I had started bleeding again. I bled and bled for 36 days straight. Since I had already gotten a negative blood test, my doctor figured it was just my body trying to level out. I had a couple of small flare ups last week. You can read more about it here.
On Friday around 5 AM, I was hit again with the strong stabbing like pain in my uterus and close to my appendix. I tried everything to ease the pain. I had to work the weekend and was trying to get someone else to cover my shift. But who wants to work on a weekend? I went into work and the minute I walked through the door, my manager said I was really pale. By this point I had already taken 2,000 milligrams of ibuprofen. I knew something was wrong. When I looked in the mirror I had dark brow circles covering my eyes and just looked sick. Within the first hour of my shift, I could hardly stand up. My sister felt my arm and commented on how icy cold my skin felt. My managers noticed I was getting worse and sent me to sit down while my sister called my dad to come pick me up. All I wanted was to go to urgent care for pain medicine. By the time I was in my parent's car and just leaving the parking lot, the pain hit harder than ever. It hurt too bad to breathe. My head was spinning around and I was sweaty. I started crying to my dad about the pain. Then all of a sudden I was throwing up on the floor of the car. Twice. My dad knew instantly that I needed more than urgent care. He sped until we got to the emergency room, thinking it could possibly my appendix.

We got put in a room quickly and the tests started. I kept asking for water but nobody would give it to me. They just started drawing blood from my arms. I was dehydrated since I had just thrown up the only thing I had eaten for the day, my usual green juice. I started panicking again because I couldn't breathe or sit up. I thought I was going to faint. Finally the nurse got me IV and medications. When testing for my blood pressure, I was lower than I should be. I just felt so dizzy, weak, and thirsty. "How about that water now? Please just give me water." I would say to the nurse.

The ER doctor came back in later and simply said, "You're pregnant." No. No. I couldn't be. That's impossible. I just had a blood test taken. There is no way. I argued and doubted him for a bit. My husband was in denial as well. The doctor told me that it was probably a tubular pregnancy, meaning the fetus was developing anywhere outside of my uterus. We got some ultrasounds done and sure enough, the ER doctor was right. There was in fact a baby growing inside of me. But things were not going the way they should. I was quickly prepped for an emergency surgery since the baby had ruptured. Luckily my dad and Jimmy gave me a wonderful blessing since I was scared. Before I knew it, I was being wheeled into the operating room. The pain had all come back again. I was freaking out and the last thing I remember was the nurse asking the Anesthesiologist what to do. The next thing I remember was waking up with nurses all around me, petting my hair and rubbing my face. I had woken up crying and shaking, and could not stop scratching my face. Finally I was wheeled into my tiny room. Jimmy was always on the uncomfortable chair right beside me. Once I was hooked up to everything I needed, I was able to get a little rest. The nurses checked in on me every hour. My blood pressure kept dropping and no matter how many hot blankets I was wrapped in, I was still cold. Finally, I was able to warm up and give them some more blood. My blood pressure had stopped dropping but it was still low.

I had learned that if I had not gone to the hospital when I did, this could have killed me. The doctors were telling me about how there are women in my situation who didn't make it in time to live. It could have easily been fatal.

The next morning I got a briefing of what happened during the surgery. I had been cut open in a few places on my tummy. The first thing the doctor saw was blood. Lots of internal bleeding. He drained 400 ml of blood out and said he knew there was another 200 ml in my body. I had lost a lot of blood. I was told that I was right on the border line of needing a blood transfusion. I had my IV and some stranger's blood ready to go in case I needed it. My doctor was amazed at how well the surgery went. He said that even though my baby was one of the biggest ones he had to take, it was also one of the smoothest surgeries he had every performed. He asked me how I was able to keep up with all of the lost blood from 36 days of bleeding. I told him I eat a lot of healthy meat. He liked that. My doctor explained to me that the baby had grown to be the size of my uterus and fist. It had in fact been in my fallopian tube which was the size of the pointy end of a pen. He was amazed that my tube didn't break at all. My doctor still ended up having to remove my fallopian tube since it was so damaged and scarred. I was told that I could still get pregnant with one tube. He also explained to me that I was having such a hard time breathing because of all of the internal bleeding. The blood was irritating my lungs and had caused inflammation.

From there on out I was just in my recovery phase. Jimmy was always beside me, holding my hand, braiding my hair and giving me encouragement. We had a ton of visitors and sweet words sent to us. My happiness was lifting up when I realized I could in fact get pregnant. Let me repeat that. I CAN IN FACT GET PREGNANT. Jimmy and I were ecstatic about the news. When you have been dealing with inftertility, this is great to hear! I was still getting pumped with pain killers and other medicine, along with the IV. Having support from everyone is making the process so much easier to deal with. Jimmy and I were ready to go last night. We got permission from my doctor. He said that if I could prove that I was able to walk, go potty, and eat some food without sending it back up, then I could most likely go home. I was ready. With help from my nurse and Jimmy to get me out of bed, I was able to walk with hardly any support. I also went potty and later ate three inches of my Subway sandwich that Jimmy's brother brought for us. Apparently three inces is more than a lot of people would have been able to eat.

My doctor and nurses were so impressed that they let me go home!

I am still in some pain, especially where my fallopian tube had once been. We are working on getting some color back to my skin and getting my body the nourishment it needs. Jimmy and I are currently staying at my parents so I can be taken care of while he has to go back to work. I see a little progress being made. I was told to plan for a six week recovery, then at eight weeks I will most likely be able to go back to my previous day to day activities.

Whew! I did not realize just how much I wrote on here! I wonder if anyone actually got to the end of this post??? Haha.

I want to say THANK YOU to everyone of you who has helped me out this weekend. I am so amazed at how loved I feel. From here on out its just doctor's appointments and healing. So thank you again to so many of you! If you have any other questions, I am pretty open about this. But I'm tired so I think I will lay down for a bit! :)

a little update + finding good in the trials

I thought it would be a good time for an update since people have been asking me a lot lately how my health has been. So here goes another one of my long and jumbled up posts. :)

I would be lying if I said these past few months have been easy.
The truth is, is that some days I feel like I am just trying to make it through the day.
It certainly hasn't all been bad, though.
I feel pretty darn good mentally.
Its just physically and sometimes emotionally I have been on a struggle.
I have been taking different hormones the past few months to help my body since I can't create what I need on my own. The good news is, is that I have lowered my estrogen and testosterone to healthy levels through my clean lifestyle. My thyroid was slacking, but with help from some medications I've actually been doing okay. Okay as in my hair is growing (!!!!!!) and my nails aren't so brittle.
But it is my progesterone levels I cannot get up to where it needs to be.
A healthy woman produces a progesterone level of 10. Back in March I was only producing a level of 2. I was frustrated yesterday because after months of taking straight progesterone, I had only raised my levels up to 3.9. My sweet doctor lifted my spirits by reminding me that my progesterone has almost doubled in the past few months. So I guess we are on the right path.
We are going to shuffle things around a bit with hopes that my body will absorb and like the progesterone better. He also offered to put me on Chlomid if we were in a big hurry to get pregnant. I told him that in the condition I was in, I would not be able to handle Chlomid at the moment. That I wanted to focus on getting my body balanced and to feel healthy before I started up the ovulation drugs again.

Last week was really hard on me. On Wednesday I was planning my weekly menu when this sharp pain hit my uterus area. Hard. It was the most painful feeling I've ever had. I immediately fell over and could not move. I just remember being alone and crying because it hurt so bad. There was a lot of blood. I felt so strongly that I needed to call Jimmy right then. Figuring he would not be able to pick up since it was his work hours, I had little hope of reaching him. But to my surprise, he picked up. I completely forgot that he had a physical that day and was just walking out of the doctor's office the minute I called him. In just a few minutes he was rushing through the door to me. He was so sweet, rubbing my back, grabbing me ice and water, calling my doctor to see if I needed to go to the E.R. (Which we did not since they wouldn't have been able to do anything for me.) All I could do was cry and tell him that I was in pain. Finally, after a whole lotta ibuprofen and a hot bath, I was able to get the pain down to a manageable point. Turns out when your body doesn't have progesterone, you don't shed your uterine lining every month. (Hence my lack of periods.) But the estrogen is what builds up the lining. So as months go by, you just keep building and building but never shed. Then when your body can't go any longer, it just gives out. You lose all that you have built up. It's a very painful process.

Okay, I keep forgetting that I'm not supposed to be writing a novel...

But anywho! Like I said before, it hasn't all been bad. Through this trial of mine, I am so glad that I have been able to keep a healthy perspective and not dwell on the down sides. I'm grateful that I have been blessed with a great doctor who I know truly cares about me and listens to me. I know that I have a lot of amazing family members to help me out and who have been a major support to me, even if they don't know it. I'm glad that I have been shown the tender mercies of the Lord on a daily basis. Jimmy gave me a priesthood blessing a couple of weeks ago, it was so sincere and comforting. Through it I know things will get better. I'm blessed to have married such a wonderful man who takes great care of me and understands my needs. And thank you to all of you wonderful readers who send me encouraging and loving notes! I really appreciate it.

The little daily reminder I made to help keep me in perspective

Annnnnnd I'm hungry, so this will be my cut-off-no-good-loosely-wrapped-up-end-of-the-post. Time for some stuffed bell peppers! :)
