DIY Little Monsters and Pumpkins

This project has taken me three days to complete, not because that's really how time consuming it is,
but because I'll do a bit here and there.
There aren't a lot of supplies used, and theyre really simple to create!

I love this project! I wish I would have done them a bit sooner so they can stay out longer for Halloween. Oh well, better late than never, right?

I went to a relief society activity with my S-I-L where they were making Halloween decor.
Then came the creative juices and now comes the tutorial for my version. :)

I've used three different techniques, the witch's technique seemed to work best for me.

Supplies needed: empty jar, vase, or a glass (I found three vases at the thrift store for about 50 cents each), tissue paper (the color depends on what you will be making, I used green, white, and orange), black construction paper, paint brush (I find the sponge works best), Modpodge or Elmer's Glue, and a LED light. (I found mine in a pack of three at the dollar store.)

1- Cut tissue paper into strips

2- Pour your glue onto a paper plate or bowl, dip your brush in your glue and "paint" some glue on a section inside your jar.

3- Take a strip of tissue paper and press it to the glue. I used my paint brush (both ends, whatever seemed to get the job done) to press the tissue paper down since my hands were too big to fit inside my vase. The paint brush also seems to add a top coat of glue when used to press. Work your way around the whole jar, gluing and pressing.

If you end up with empty spaces, just simply fill it in with another strip.

4- Using your black construction paper, draw and cut out a face, and glue it to the outside of your jar. As you can tell, I'm not an artist ;) The key is to just get creative! Tie ribbon around your jar, add glitter, make a hat, etc. You really can't go wrong on this one.

*For the pumpkin and ghost, I glued the face first, on the inside, then added the tissue paper later, so everything was under the glass. I found that there were air bubbles in the eyes/mouth once they dried, so I recommend putting the face on the outside of the glass and the tissue paper on the inside. But this is your project, so do what you like :)

The Jack-O-Lantern on the far right is my S-I-L's work, she used a Mason jar and it turned out super cute!

They'd be so much fun in a window at night!

5- Place your LED light inside your little monster, leave the light off during the day and turn it on during the night to enjoy your DIY Jack-O-Lanterns and Little Monsters!

Now get to work! I'd love to see what you've created!

Tomorrow's Post: Homemade Apple Sauce, stick around!

  2. Agreeing with Stephanie! You ARE amazing Kailie and I look forward to reading your posts every day! It was fun seeing your little monsters and pumpkin take shape the last three days and I'm glad we could go to the activity together! (I'll always remember flicking my yogurt, dropping my candy corn and us forking our waffles down before anyone else was even getting started-hahaha!).
