what have we been doing all summer?!

This summer has been such a blast! Hubs and I have been constantly outside riding bikes, hiking, long walks, riding horses, camping, rock climbing, you name it.
We are trying to relax and have fun one day at a time.

Last week we went camping with my family, it was so fun! The weather was perfect, the view was beautiful and the company was great! We took the horses with us and we went on a few trail rides.

We ran into a moose on one of our rides. My heart stopped beating for a second, then it ran off, whew!

Here's to another month of summer fun!

a new look, fall, and other things

We headed up to Cascade Springs this week for our yearly fall drive and walk. We've been going since we were dating a few years ago and always look forward to it! Hubby has been going since he was a kid with his family and I'm happy to say that we still carry the tradition on.

I wanted to get some cute photos with Jimmy while we were there, but unfortunately my carsickness kicked into over drive the farther up the trail we walked so we ended up not staying too long. Its not uncommon for me to get slight motion sickness on curvy roads but I assumed that it would go away once in the fresh air. It didn't this time and I'm wondering if it had something to do with the elevation or something I ate previously?

My sister convinced me to take the ponies on a trail ride last Saturday morning. It was a blast! I took my old pony, Sugar Lips, that my parents still use for riding lessons. We went bareback (no saddles) around the dike by the lake. We cantered (horsey ran) a lot and I didn't even fall off! I was sure I would because its been a while since I've done that. Plus we were laughing so hard because we looked so funny on our full speed ponies taking a run for it. I am sure feeling it in my legs and abs this week. But it was so worth it!

After our ride, Jimmy convinced me to go rock climbing up the canyon...Yeah, I have NO muscles this week! I really wasn't in the mood and declined to climb for a while because the only rock we could climb was one I was mad at. (I can't get very far up it at all). I finally just went so Jimmy would stop inviting me. I was on the rock for ages and was so irritated that I was struggling so much that I was determined to beat that dang rock. Before I knew it I was sitting at the top looking over the tip of the temple and fall leaves covering the valley! I'm glad my Hubby knows me and pushes me to try new things.

Also, last week my brand new Silhouette Cameo came for me in the mail! Woo hoo! I've been wanting one for a while now and saved up some baby sitting money for it. Whew! I'm still a newbie and just trying to figure things out but I can tell it will be well played with and loved. That last sentence just sounded like someone was talking about a baby or something.

And just one last update for y'all before you get too bored with my looong post. I've been getting migraines and headaches the past couple of weeks. They've been lasting all day and continue to get worse as time goes by. I watch my diet and water intake very closely and knew there were no changes there. I keep trying to figure out what was going on when I noticed I consistently get a headache when looking at any type of screen. Since I work in front of a computer all day and the headaches were getting worse pretty quickly, I made an eye appointment per my hubby's and mom's advice. For a girl who comes from a family that doesn't have any vision problems, I received really weird news. We found out that my right eye is far sighted while my left eye is near sighted. My vision is still pretty good but my eyes are constantly trying to "fight" with each other and adjust, causing headaches. So I was kindly ordered some special little reading/screen glasses to help my head not hurt all day.
I figured I might as well have fun with them if I have to live with them so I tried on like a hundred of funky and fun glasses. The girls at the front desk had a ball helping me try them out and narrow down my options until I picked these ones (and please excuse my awkward face)

I LOVE my little cat lenses! And I just noticed I'm wearing a leopard shirt under as well. I guess you could say I'm a sucker for anything leopard print. :)

the fourth, the outdoors, some food, and a spook.

A little recap of what we've been up to lately. I know, I'm super behind on blogging!

We enjoyed the fourth of July..

Between the parade with my family, a movie, some BBQ food with hub's family, then a giant water fight and fireworks, we had a great time! Well, don't I say that every year?

(Thanks hubs for the top two photos)

I baked and decorated these little patriotic coconut cupcakes for our BBQ. Unfortunately most of the flags didn't make it to the cupcakes in time.

Jimmy got a (very nice) used bike for a great deal the other week. Bike rides every evening, alllllll evening....

And we've been having fun in the kitchen of course! Do you think I would update y'all with a post that had no food in it somewhere? Hubby actually made and canned the jams below. Lots of berries from the garden were involved, yum!

What did I do while he worked away? I sat on my rear and ate a few cookies. I so kindly offered up my jam taste testing services every now and again too. So much work involved in the process. ;)

Sorry for the awful quality photos below but....

The other night I came home from work, flipped on the bedroom light, and got spooked out of my pants because a man was lying in my bed.

After a long second of scared jumping, I laughed and laughed at hubby's little surprise. Yes, those are his clothes, yes hubs drew the face himself, and yes that is a head made out of a well used whoopie cushion laying around the house.

Because every couple needs a whoopie cushion to keep their marriage strong, ya know?

our little adventure called the grotto

Jimmy took me on a little nature walk after church yesterday. He didn't tell me where we were going so I was pretty excited. All he told me was that he knew I would like it and that the trail was "kid friendly." He knows me well. ;)

Presenting: The Payson Grotto!

After our little adventure I kicked back with a little homemade peach-lemonade Popsicle. Just blended up 1 lemon + 1 peach + some water and poured into Popsicle molds to freeze. YUM!

BTW- Anybody know of any fun hidden hikes and locations close by? We are planning on hitting up a lot this summer and need ideas!

if you wanted to know a little, no, a lot about our weekend

Every week I write about how great the weekend was. So repetitive but so true! When Sunday comes to an end, Jimmy and I always mention how we wish the weekends lasted a little longer. Especially with this fabulous weather we've been having, the warm sun calls for adventure! And so for a little recapping for whoever even cares about what our weekend looked like...

Early morning rock climbing up the canyon. This is starting to become a tradition. We know when 8 AM rolls around on a Saturday morning, we are off to climb some rocks while the sun rises. I know, I know, none of you can get past the fact that we are up and running around so early on the weekend. But the truth is that we both are awake well before 8, no alarms needed. And we can't sleep in. And we go to bed early. Say it, we are old folks.

We attended a baptism right after our climb then headed off for a little burgers and shakes date. Ummm, the Malt Shop is so good. Hubs loved his apple cobbler shake and I downed my brownie goodness. Anyone know of any other killer thick making delicious shake stops around here? Doesn't help my healthy eating goals but hey, a girls gotta live a little before she goes crazy.

And of course seeing my lovely sissy. What you are looking at is currently the screen saver on my phone. I've got nothing on that girl. And heyyy, she's decided she's going to be a dentist. And she'll get there in no time. So awesome.

I got my crafting on this weekend. Out of nowhere I was pulling supplies from the garage and getting myself into a giant mess. My back kills as we speak from this gem. Its not as perfect as I wanted it to be. It turned out being harder than I thought. But I loooooove it. And hubs didn't even have to help me assemble the wood together. And I free handed the painting job. And I already have a million other ideas. And and and that's enough "ands."

I knew exactly where I wanted to put it. Sorry for the not-so-clear picture, I couldn't wait until the perfect light hit tomorrow to snap away. I already know what projects I'm going to tackle this week. Can't wait to show you guys all of my goodies I've been stashing in secret.

Our Sunday was fabulous as well. I was reminded of how wonderful of a man I married to. I'm so blessed to be able to keep him forever. Church was so uplifting and you might as well rename me "Mrs. Waterworks." We also enjoyed a baby blessing for some close friends of ours. Then took a long nap together. Yep, great weekend.

So there you have it, every little tiny detail about our weekend. Don't mean to bore you but I can't leave a single thing out, ever. ;)

a 'lil camping getaway was a good idea

We took a little over nighter camping trip to Big Springs this weekend. Just the hubs and I. I knew fully well that we were most likely going to be rained out on and and probably wake up frozen, but oddly enough, that weather wouldn't stop me this time. I wanted to get some fresh air! The hubs picked Big Springs because there are usually porta-pottys set up along the way (for me), but when we showed up there were none. Jimmy told me it was okay if I wasn't comfortable with the trip anymore. But oddly again, I told him we might as well just go since we had been planning on it all week.

And I'm so glad we stuck with it! It is SO beautiful this time of year. The weather turned out being warmer than we planned for, the rain had already passed, and nobody was around, except us and some deer.

I had prepared my first dehydrated backpacking meal. We started off pretty simple with a brown rice, broccoli, and meat dish. It was a success and I can't wait to test out a lot of other recipes.

I just wish the ground was better for sleeping on. Even with a good pad, my achy shoulders kept me up a lot of the night. I just about kissed my fluffy bed yesterday as I crawled into it.

I actually had a really hard time with the majority of the hike up. I haven't worked any of the muscles needed in a long time and lost all of my stamina. Not that I had much to lose anyways. I kept having to stop and I just wanted to dump out all of the water I was lugging up. I was sweating and breathing so hard. But once we made it to camp, I was so proud of myself for not giving up! My buns- not so happy right now. ;)

I was very prepared for cold and wet weather. Almost too prepared. While packing, Hubs said to me, "FOUR pairs of pants?!" I just smiled and said, "Yep!" Obviously he was the one carrying my clothes.

P.S. Anybody else loving all of the conference messages spoken this weekend? Lots of good stuff!
